Kell Brook is making his US debut tonight Luis Galarza

Britain’s number one ranked Welterweight Kell Brook will make his USA debut tonight on the undercard of the Carl Froch Vs Andre Ward Super six final. His opponent Luis Galarza (17-2 13KOs) is the type of opponent to look good against, who isn’t much of a risk and who shouldn't win the fight.

Is Galarza a Good Choice of Opponent?

You don’t want Brook to be facing a tough pro like Andre Berto or Victor Ortiz for his first fight in the US, you want him in an easy fight where he can dominate and showcase his skills. Eddie Hearn (Brook’s promoter) has done the right thing by getting Brook an easy challenge, but Galarza isn’t a big name in the US. What Hearn should have done is put Brook in the ring with a big name who is past his best. Paulie Malignaggi would have been perfect.

Don't expect Brook to have much of a test tonight - his fight with Galarza is meant only to out his name out there in the US.

Kell Brook vs Luis Galarza Prediction

Writing a prediction for this bout was easy - the fight won’t go the distance. Brook will dominate the opening half of the fight and make a show of his skills before ending it in the late rounds. You can expect to hear a lot more about Sheffield born Kell Brook after this fight.

Special K is a cereal, a hallucinogenic drug and a boxer from Sheffield.

What’s Next For Kell Brook?

Next, Eddie Hearn should put Kell Brook in with the Senchenko/Malignaggi winner (if that fight is finalized.) Out of all of the Welterweight belt holders, Senchenko is considered the weakest. Malignaggi is his mandatory so a fight between the two looks likely to happen early next year.

There's no reason to rush things. Why put Brook in with a tough title holder like Mayweather or Pacquiao (where he doesn’t have a big chance of winning), when you can put him in a very winnable fight and one where he is likely to hear the words “and the new” after the final bell.

Brook vs Malignaggi would most likely take place in America and it would be a good chance to put another decent name on his resume. So Brook may be rooting for Malignaggi to win that fight it happens.

Other than Prince Naseem, there aren’t many Sheffield born boxers who can say they made it big in America. Can Kell Brook be added to that list?
