Rising welterweight Kell Brook will fight in his hometown in July, but who will he be against?

Kell Brook's last hometown fight against Matthew Hatton was such a success that his promoter Eddie Hearn is going to do another one. A provisional date has been booked for 07/07 for Brook to fight, with the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, being the venue. We don't know who his opponent is, but I can guarantee it will sell out. Brook's popularity in Sheffield is off the scales and I don't praise promoters often, but it is a testament to Eddie Hearn's hard work.

So who is Kell Brook going to fight next? Well there are a few strong candidates, and some you can scratch off straight away. Now, I'd hope that Eddie Hearn is going to drive Brook forwards, so optimistically I'll look at the top of the welterweight division.

Kell Brook's Next Fight - the Candidates

Pacquiao / Mayweather / Ortiz / Berto -  Nope

Vyacheslav Senchenko - He defends his WBA title against Paul Malignaggi on April 29th. Is it impossible for him to be ready for 07/07? No, but it is still unlikely.   - Nope

Marcos Maidina - El Chino lost to Devon Alexander in February, so his star isn't as bright as it was. Maidan - Brook would be a brilliant fight, and I'd probably get tickets to see it live. Hearn himself has acknowledged that it is a 'dream fight'.   - Yeah

Shane Mosely - Again this is a name mentioned by Hearn. I guess we need to see how Mosley copes with Saul Alvarez in May. Even so, I doubt he'd be Brook's July opponent. One for the future maybe.  - Nope

Mike Jones - A fight everyone wants to see, but unfortunately Jones is fighting Randall Bailey in June  - Nope

Devon Alexander - He beat Maidana in February and before that he got a controversial split decision over Matthysse. Alexander's reputation took a beating with his limp performance against Timothy Bradley last year, and he still hasn't pulled it back. Beating Brook would go some way to doing that. - Yeah

Marcos Maidana and Devon Alexander are the likeliest choices for Kell Brook's next fight. Maidana, Alexander and Brook all have something to prove, and all represent a tough challenge to each other. It helps that their calenders are free as well.
