We've known for a while now that we'll someday lose Vitali Klitschko to politics. The heavyweight champion has been involved in politics since a failed run for mayor of Kiev in 2005, and ever since his involvement in that slippery world has increased. At present, Vitali is juggling his boxing career with being the leader of the UDAR party.

Mixing a high-demanding sport and a work-intensive political vocation would be a struggle for any man; the physical and mental requirements must be draining. Consider that Vitali Klitschko is forty-years old and it can't come as much surprise that he is considering retiring from boxing and focusing wholly on his other pursuits.

According to Interfax.com, in an online conference Vitali said:

"My sports career is nearing completion, but sports have always had a place in my heart, and they always will have!"

It was always a dream of Vitali and his brother Wladimir to unite all the major heavyweight titles between them. With Wladimir's win over David Haye last year the brothers achieved that, and you have to wonder what is left in the game for Vitali. He may still have a deep love for the sport, but at forty-years old, is a deep love enough to overcome the toll it can take on your body?

My guess is that we will get two or three more fights out of Vitali. To be honest, it is a pity we do not have many world-class heavyweights around, because I'd love to see him go out with a mega-fight.
